Woman rescued after vehicle plunges into Aurora pond

Rescue crews and residents helped pull a woman from a vehicle Friday afternoon after it plunged into a pond at Bilter Road and DuPage Parkway in Aurora.

The victim was taken to an Aurora hospital for treatment of injuries that may be serious, authorities said. Police have not identified her.

Rescue teams searched the pond but did not find any other victims.

Police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said the vehicle sunk in about 8 feet of water.

Authorities said it appears the woman was driving south on DuPage Parkway when she lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the pond.

Ferrelli said the first three people to enter the water to save the woman were a resident who lives near the pond, an off-duty DuPage Forest Preserve police officer and an off-duty Cicero auxiliary police officer.

Two Aurora police officers entered the water when they arrived on the scene followed by a fire department lieutenant.

The investigation is continuing.
