TEDxVernonAreaLibrary: apply to speak by June 1

Apply by 11:59 p.m. on June 1, 2018, to share your big idea at TEDxVernonAreaLibrary, to be held September 30, 2018, at the Vernon Area Public Library in Lincolnshire. Find information and a speaker application form online at http://tedx.vapld.info.

Selected applicants will work with event staff over the next few months to refine their big idea into a polished TED-style talk, which will be shared with a live audience at the TEDxVernonAreaLibrary event in September and with the rest of the world as part of the TEDx YouTube channel.

TEDx talks are short presentations, 18 minutes or less, in the same style as at the renowned TED conference held each spring in Vancouver. While TED stands for "Technology, Entertainment and Design," TED and TEDx speakers have shed light on just about every topic imaginable - science, business, the arts and the global issues facing our world - and have added new layers of complexity and consideration to frequently discussed ideas. Personalities such as Bill Gates, J.J. Abrams, Diana Nyad and Sheryl Sandberg have given talks on the TED conference main stage.

TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. These events are planned and coordinated independently, under a free license granted by TED. Close to 50,000 talks have been given at 10,000 events since the program launched in 2009.

"TEDxVernonAreaLibrary: Chain Reaction" is the third TEDx event hosted by the library. The event consists of TED-style talks delivered by local speakers, plus screening of several pre-recorded TED talks. See photos and talks from past years' events at https://tedx.vapld.info/past-events.html
