Boys volleyball: Barrington still unbeaten in MSL West

Barrington's boys volleyball team clinched a tie for the Mid-Suburban West championship by topping visiting Fremd 25-22, 25-15 on Tuesday.

The outcome leaves Barrington with a 20-5 overall record and an 8-0 mark in the West with 2 matches to play.

Michael O'toole produced a team-best 10 kills along with 2 blocks, and Gabe Hartke (7 kills) and Petar Lumovic (4) also figured prominently in the attack for the Broncos. Evan Carroll supplied 23 setting assists, and Kyle Vasquez had a team-best 9 digs.

Fremd (11-9, 3-5) got a 15-for-15 attacking effort and 6 kills from Aaron Peterson, 7 assists from Jacob Peterson and 5 blocks from Rocco Stella.

Rolling Meadows d. Elk Grove: The visiting Mustangs dominated the first set, the squeaked out a close one in the second to win 25-10, 26-24 in MSL East play.

Arthur Barczak and Billy Tompkins had 4 kills apiece for Meadows, and Barczak also contributed 3 blocks and 6 digs. Robert Ciezak (8 assists) and Billy Psarros (7 assists) ran the offense, and Max Schertler was 10-for-10 serving with 2 aces.

Schaumburg d. Hoffman Estates: The visiting Saxons continued their recent strong play with a 25-14, 25-21 victory in MSL West action.

James Swan and Adeen Zamir had 3 kills apiece to pace Hoffman Estates, which got 4 blocks from Chris Fermaintt and 3 aces from Swan.

Leyden d. Proviso East: The Eagles won 25-6, 25-4 in West Suburban Gold play behind strong efforts from Robert Elem (6 kills), Tom Radziszewski (5 kills), Carlos Villasenor (4 kills) and Rodrigo Caldera (24 assists).

Marist d. St. Viator: The host Lions slipped to 10-15 overall and 2-2 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference after falling to Marist 25-11, 25-16.

Standouts for St. Viator included Nick DeMarco (1 ace, 8 digs) and Tim Allaire (2 kills on .400 hitting percentage).
