Eight injured in Glendale Heights fire pit explosion

Eight people were transported to area hospitals with burn injuries late Saturday after a backyard fire pit exploded behind a Glendale Heights home, authorities said Sunday.

Glendale Heights police said the explosion remains under investigation, but it appears it was triggered when a flammable material was poured

onto a small fire at a home in the 1800 block of Marci Court.

Police and firefighters from the Glenside Fire Protection District called to the address at 10:16 p.m. Saturday located eight people who suffered burns. They were transported to hospitals for further treatment. No update on their condition was available Sunday.

There are no signs of foul play, police said.

Anyone with information about the explosion is asked to call the Glendale Heights Police Department at (630) 260-6070.
