Vikings makes trades, move around to fill needs

EAGAN, Minn. (AP) - Moving around the draft brought the Minnesota Vikings three players who filled needs and could have a chance to contribute right away after a busy third day of the NFL draft.

Minnesota, after trading out of the third round and holding the second pick in the fourth round, selected Ohio State defensive lineman Jalyn Holmes to start Saturday's draft. The Vikings then made a pair of trades with the New York Jets, adding tight end Tyler Conklin from Central Michigan and the first kicker taken in the draft in Auburn's Daniel Carlson.

After losing Tom Johnson and Shamar Stephen along the defensive line, Minnesota signed Sheldon Richardson in free agency. Holmes, a 270-pound defensive end at Ohio State, likely will play inside for the Vikings.

Carlson was a two-time, second-team All-American at Auburn and could take over for Kai Forbath, who missed an NFL-high five extra-point attempts last season.
