Here are the finalists for the week of April 23.

In April of 2017, colorful tulips bloom on a sunny afternoon at Cantigny Park in Wheaton, IL. I chose a low, backlit viewpoint in order to capture the light coming through the petals. Mike Weimer of St. Charles
This picture was captured in Capitol Reef National Park in southern Utah in 2013. Rock work as beautiful as better know places like Arches National Park only without the crowds. We hiked in this park for three or four hours and only saw three other people. Milton Hoskins of Hampshire
It is very interesting to observe these trees and their twisted branches. Aline Thurler Rondon Möller of Naperville
I was searching through a junk pile on a recent trip to Hot Springs, Arkansas when I came upon these Angels, "Beauty and Rust". Todd A. Sherlock of Downers Grove
These are Black Bellied Whistling Ducks. There were 9 ducks in Yorkville, IL in the spring of 2012. The colors of these males were so brilliant. They were very cooperative and I like the way the colors and clarity of the background is muted so all the glory goes to the subject at hand. Cheryl Felix of Downers Grove
A late season ice storm encased branches and berries in ice on Sunday morning, April 15 in Libertyville. Steven F. Levin of Libertyville
Cactuses spread shadows across the desert at Joshua Tree National Park in southern California in 2017. Cactuses are an example of the fascinating variety of plants that make their homes in a land sculpted by strong winds and occasional torrents of rain. Lynne Solway of Buffalo Grove
A white pelican is in distress on the channel between Fish Lake and Wooster Lake on April 11. The state wildlife rangers are trying to help it, but are having a difficult time because they are big and strong birds. Mari-Anne Hechmann of Ingleside
The sun sets over the South China Sea from the western shore of Luzon Island in the Philippines in January 2014. It is what many evacuating American citizens, Vietnamese expatriates, and U.S. veterans may have seen during the last week in April, 1975 - the end of the Vietnam War. Cynthia Suarez Kramer of Arlington Heights
A honey bee sits inside a water lily at the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe last summer. Fred Share of Arlington Heights
Two ducks look for food at Merkle Lake in the Spring Valley Nature Center in Schaumburg earlier this spring. Gerry Souter of Arlington Heights
