Mount Prospect to Celebrate Arbor Day April 27th

The Village of Mount Prospect Public Works Department will host an Arbor Day tree planting ceremony at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 27, 2018. The ceremony will be held at Lions Park Elementary School, 300 E. Council Trial. The public is invited.

During the ceremony, Mayor Arlene Juracek, various Village officials, students and staff from Lions Park Elementary School will plant a Tuliptree in the parkway. Students will perform songs and poems to commemorate the occasion. Also helping with the planting will be members of the Garden Club of Mount Prospect, who again contributed funds to assist the Village with the purchase of the Arbor Day tree. Additionally, Public Works mascot P.W. Paws will make a special appearance.

The Village will also commemorate its recent receipt of the Tree City USA (TCU) Award from the Arbor Day foundation in Nebraska. This is the 33rd consecutive year Mount Prospect has received the TCU Award, and the 14th time the Village has received the Growth Award for the Village's urban forestry program. Mayor Arlene A. Juracek noted, "For more than 30 years we have been recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation for our urban forestry efforts. Arbor Day is a wonderful day for our village to show our pride in the living legacy of our trees."

"Planting a tree is a great way to celebrate Arbor Day," stated Dave Hull, Mount Prospect Forestry and Grounds Superintendent. "I am especially excited this year, to be back at Lions Park Elementary where I attended my first ever Arbor Day program with the Village back in 2007. I hope our citizens will join us this year in planting trees throughout the community, to help perpetuate Mount Prospect's urban forest." To help with this effort, Public Works will send upon request, the latest information about diversified tree species that are appropriate for planting in our area.
