'Beauty and the Beast' opens Thursday in Fox Lake

More than 100 Grant Community High School students have been preparing since January for this week's performances of "Beauty and the Beast" at the Fox Lake school. The spring musical is made up of 47 cast members and 74 crew members who handle the set, lights, sound, props, costumes and makeup.

Grant's theater director Beth Suehr said "Beauty and the Beast" is a tale of young girl who is bored with her simple life and hoping for adventure. She finds just that when her father becomes lost in the woods and seeks shelter in an enchanted castle. Expect all the iconic characters and memorable songs to melt your heart as we are all reminded of the importance and power of love.

Performances are at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the school, 285 E. Grand Ave.

Tickets are $5 for students and seniors and $7 for adults and available at grantbulldogs.org. Children are encouraged to attend dressed as their favorite character. All will have the opportunity to take photos and receive autographs from the cast.
