Boys volleyball: Mundelein's Dressen gets No. 500 in Warren tourney

Warren Invite: Lincoln-Way East defeated Palatine in the championship match, 25-20, 25-22.

Warren lost to Oak Park-River Forest in the fifth-place game, 25-13, 25-16 and Stevenson lost to Wheaton North in the seventh-place game, 25-21, 26-24.

Kyle Wells of Warren and Gavin Meng of Stevenson were named to the all-tournament team.

Mundelein, which finished 19th by defeating Grant, 25-11, 25-17, helped longtime coach George Dressen get his 500th career win with a victory over Hoffman Estates earlier on Saturday.

"I would like to thank all of my assistant coaches over the years for the hard work they put in the development of so many fine athletes, and the administration, teachers and staff for the many years of support they have given me and the volleyball program at Mundelein.

"I would also like to thank all of the players for working so well together over the years. They have become family. I am very proud to be a Mustang."

For Mundelein, Marc Rey and Abram Nazario had 22 kills apiece over the tournament while Steven Mintello had 66 assists.

Vernon Hills went 3-2 at Warren to finish 11th. Derrick Jones led the Cougars with 33 kills and Noah Proft had 55 assists and Sammy Adkisson had 40 digs.

For Stevenson, Meng had 21 kills on Saturday over 3 matches while Alex Bian had 28 digs and Will Sorenson had 48 assists.

Carmel got three wins at Warren. Jackson Ptasienski had 47 kills, 21 digs and 6 blocks while Mike Scott had 35 kills and 6 blocks.

Austin James rolled up 111 assists and Shayne Henderson had 43 digs.
