Breaking ground: Aurora Habitat for Humanity launches 62nd home

Montgomery-based Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity broke ground April 3 at 1551 Solfisburg Ave. in Aurora for Habitat's 62nd home since 1989.

Guests were future home co-owners Juventino and Marisa Marrufo, sons Manuel and Alexis Marrufo, and grandmother Soledad Martinez, all of Aurora.

The Marrufo home will feature four bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms and be wheelchair accessible

Ron Kelso of Yorkville, Habitat board chair, presided at the ceremony. Speakers were George Colis, board chairman, Oxford Bank and Trust, Oak Brook; Bruce Glawe, president and CEO, Oxford Bank; Mark Knox, Naperville, Habitat board member; state rep. Linda Chapa LaVia, Aurora and Habitat board member; Chuck Nelson, Aurora deputy mayor; and Barb Zegiel, Habitat funds coordinator.

Chris Schindler, Habitat executive director, and Alex Dewane, construction assistant, led singing of "Hold Us Together."

Daniel B. Enriquez, pastor at Templo Sion in Plano, delivered the invocation and benediction.

Since 2004, Oxford and Euclid Insurance Services in Itasca, Colis family-owned firms, have contributed more than $200,000 and volunteer labor to Fox Valley Habitat projects in Aurora at 34 N. Farnsworth Ave., 415 Sherman Ave., 1326 Pearl St. and 1557 Solfisburg Ave.

Since its inception, Fox Valley Habitat has built or renovated 60 homes in Aurora, North Aurora and Montgomery.

Habitat facilities include offices at Genesis Community Church in Montgomery and a warehouse at 250 S. Highland Ave. in Aurora
