Consumers Cooperative Association Announces Winners of Ten (10) $2,000.00 Scholarships for High School Seniors

Gurnee, IL, March 20, 2018: Consumers Cooperative Association (CCA), the sponsor of Consumers Credit Union (CCU, $1.25 Billion, Waukegan, IL) awarded ten (10) $2,000.00 scholarships last week at their 48th Annual Meeting in Gurnee. The recipients, all local high school seniors, are able to use their scholarships at the college or university of their choice.

"Consumers Cooperative Association is excited to announce our ten scholarship winners," according to Kathleen Crews, CCA President. "Supporting our young people and encouraging their pursuit of higher education is the primary driver of our scholarship program. We're confident these outstanding students will achieve their individual dreams as they transition from high school to college, and ultimately become the leaders of tomorrow. We look forward to seeing great accomplishments from them in the future!"

The 2018 Scholarship winners include (shown in enclosed photo, pictured left to right, with their high schools indicated in parentheses): Amanda Brown (Warren Township High School); Tyler Collins (Mundelein High School); Dillon Davy (Barrington High School) Juliana Gonzalez (Round Lake High School); Yamileth Lopez (Round Lake High School); Michael Graham (Libertyville High School); Bryce Herr (Johnsburg High School); Colin Morones (Zion Benton High School); Alexa Sosa (Vernon Hills High School); and, Kelly Welsh (home-schooled).

The evaluation of applications was completed by a committee comprised of Consumers Cooperative Association Board Members. Careful consideration was given to participation in community and school activities, work experience, academic performance, their essay and financial need. "A huge 'thank you' to the review committee for an awesome job," continued Crews.

Crews noted there was an online application option for the first time this year, resulting in a big increase in the number of applicants. CCA received 163 applications from 72 different high schools located in 13 different states. 63% of the applicants were female and 37% male, with students from Warren, Mundelein, Zion Benton, Grayslake North and Lakes Community High Schools leading the way.

"Seeing these amazing students receive their scholarships is my personal highlight of the evening," said Sean M. Rathjen, Consumers Credit Union's CEO. "We are so proud that our sponsor provides their scholarship program and are delighted to be affiliated with them and their investment in these students. On behalf of CCU's Management and Board of Directors, we extend our best wishes for big success to this year's scholarship winners."
