Rosemont pays legal fees after losing records disclosure case
Rosemont's village board this week approved an $80,000 payment to the law firm representing the Better Government Association, which sued the village in 2015 over its refusal to release financial records about village-owned entertainment venues.
The law firm Loevy & Loevy was entitled to receive legal fees after an appellate court ruled last year the village must release details of rental contracts and financial incentives at the Allstate Arena and Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. It was possible both sides could have returned to court to litigate over the lawyers fees, but a settlement was reached.
Rosemont officials say they paid their own lawyers $90,000 to defend the case, in which they argued certain information amounted to "trade secrets".
