GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Mitchell Wong of Calvin College was named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week in men's lacrosse on Monday afternoon. Wong is claiming the honor after playing in his first collegiate game on Saturday afternoon.

He is the second Calvin men's lacrosse player to claim this honor this season and in program history.

"Mitchell was nothing short of tremendous in the cage on Saturday," said Calvin head coach Dave Hoger. "After battling illness the past two weeks, he got himself prepared extremely well for his first collegiate game. He gave our defense confidence in key moments of the game and gave us an opportunity to compete at a high level. His confidence and leadership was a bright spot in the game"

A freshman from Schaumburg, Illinois, Wong is claiming the honor for the first time in his career.

Against North Central, Wong posted 21 saves against the Cardinal attack. He also picked up seven ground balls. Saturday marked his first game playing as a Knight.

Wong and the Knights return to action on Saturday against DePauw at Grand Rapids Christian High School.
