Glenbard South students work with Argonne scientist on research

Several Glenbard South High School students involved in an independent study in science as part of the Exemplary Student Research Program Group are working with a mentor scientist from Argonne National Laboratory and science teacher Amanda Raymond to research the chemical makeup of wastewater microbes.

They visited a wastewater treatment facility to collect samples and learn about the wastewater treatment process. This was followed by a trip to Argonne Laboratory to learn how Ptychography and x-ray fluorescence will be used to analyze their samples.

At the conclusion of the project, students will present their findings to a panel of judges at Argonne. They hope that their findings could be used to improve the efficiency of wastewater treatment in the future.

The following students shared their exciting work with Glenbard District 87's board of education: Molly Friedman, Alex Bergendorf, Mary Cooke, Lillian Felsenthal, Katie O'Keefe, Alyssa Paul, Alexandra Pietrasanta, Ian Rose, Ali Siddiqi and Sohini Surapaneni.
