State Bound Spellers at St. Emily School

Mt. Prospect Council 6481 sponsored the local 2018 Knights of Columbus Spelling Bee on February 3 at St. Raymond De Peñafort. Schools from Mount Prospect and Prospect Heights sent their top spellers.

The Spelling Bee lasted almost three hours, through 35 rounds and 242 words. The champion spellers all attend St. Emily School, Mt. Prospect. Camille Martinez finished in third place, Eileen Lee, in second place, and Erin Cavender in first place.

These three spellers represented the Mt. Prospect Council at the Region 4 Spelling Bee at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glenview on February 24. All three spelled away their competition in 16 rounds to qualify for the state finals on April 7 in Chatham, IL.

St. Emily seventh grader Eileen Lee came in third, eighth grader Camille Martinez finished second, and eighth grader Erin Cavender earned first place. Congratulations to all three students and best wishes in the Illinois KofC Spelling Bee Finals.
