Schaumburg Hosting March 6 Public Hearing on Updated Comprehensive Plan

The Village of Schaumburg invites the public to attend a March 6 public hearing where participants will be able to provide feedback on updates that have been recommended for the village's new Comprehensive Plan.

The Comprehensive Plan is an official policy guide for land use, development and community improvement in Schaumburg. The public hearing will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 6 in Russ Parker Hall at the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center, 101 Schaumburg Court, Schaumburg. An overview of the plan will be provided and those who attend will have an opportunity to provide comments on the draft plan.

The village began the process of updating its Comprehensive Plan in May of 2016. The current comprehensive plan was last updated in 1996 and, since that time, significant development and redevelopment has occurred in the village. The village has been working together with planning and consulting firm, Houseal Lavigne Associates, to review the policies and directives in the current plan; perform community outreach; and create the new vision, goals and objectives. The public can view the draft plan by visiting the website at http://bit.ly/2C3nzn9.

As part of the two-year process, a Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee of elected officials, appointed officials, and residents was created to assist in making updates to the plan. In addition, members of the community were solicited to provide feedback at a variety of stages in the project during a community workshop, visioning workshop, and open house. The outreach process included both traditional (face-to-face) and web-based activities to garner the broadest levels of participation.

The Comprehensive Plan is organized into 10 chapters that provide information on the purpose and vision behind the plan as well as the strategies to tackle issues affecting the community. The plan includes an implementation chapter that provides direction on how all recommendations will be achieved to support the village's long-term vision.

Additional information about the Comprehensive Plan can be found on the website at http://bit.ly/2dQk4Cx. Following the March 6 public hearing, the Comprehensive Plan will be considered by the Village Board for approval.
