Huntley 158 Education Foundation awards $6,000 in grants

Members of the Huntley District 158 Education Foundation recently awarded $6,327.96 in grants to Huntley Unit District 158 educators during its annual grant cycle.

This year's grants include an exciting entrepreneurial project for students with special needs, advanced hands-on equipment for HHS Medical Academy students, books in a wide variety of genres, reading tool-kits, Math Team contest fees, and more!

Thanks to matching funds from the Huntley High Fine Arts Boosters, the Education Foundation was also able to provide funding for the purchase of technical effects equipment for the district's Performing Arts Center. This is especially exciting since nearly every student in the district has the opportunity to experience the more than eight-plus stage productions that take place each school year in addition to learning more about the arts programs.

2017-18 Grant Awards:

• Job skills candle production $250: Huntley High School Life Skills/Job Skills Program;

• Close Read tool kits $1,543.16: Chesak Elementary School second-grade team;

• Math team contest fees $225: Huntley High School math team students;

• Orthopedics in Action $1,611.75: Huntley High School Medical Academy;

• All the Books! $999: Martin Elementary School fourth grade;

• Battle of the Books 2017-18 $440.25: Leggee Elementary School coaching team;

• Advanced Technical Theatre Effects $1,258.80: District 158 Performing Arts Center.

Applications not selected for funding have been placed online to provide an opportunity for businesses, community members, and anonymous donors to adopt and fund even more innovative ideas.

The foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, tax-exempt organization governed by a volunteer board of directors comprised of business and community leaders, parents, teachers and staff members working to support district schools by advocating for excellence in education, connecting schools and communities, and supporting students and teachers.

Since its inception in 2003, the Education Foundation has awarded more than $99,700 in grants.
