Bolingbrook youth nominated to U.S. Merchant Marine Academy

Christopher Welsh, 18, of Bolingbrook, was offered an appointment to the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Jan. 18, 2018.

Christopher is a home-schooled youth in Bolingbrook where he has lived the past 15 years.

Attending the Academy has always been a goal of his, where his Uncle Chuck also attended and graduated in 1987. Unfortunately, his uncle passed away in 2015 after a 19-year battle with cancer, but we know he would be proud of Chris.

Christopher completes his home-school education in May. He also currently takes physics and calculus courses at Joliet Community College and will be inducted into the Phi Kappa Theta Honor Society for 2- year colleges in April. In addition to his rigorous academic record, Chris has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
