Youth are invited to join 'My Vision, My Future' art contest Feb. 24

The Hoffman Estates Chapter of Links Inc. invites the community to "My Vision, My Future" open art class from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, in the Story Room at Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in downtown Elgin.

Students from kindergarten to high school can work with an art instructor to produce a poster depicting themes centered on their vision for a happy and healthy future. Students will have the opportunity to submit their final posters into the "My Vision, My Future" national poster art competition.

The Hoffman Estates Chapter is committed to ensuring that youth are academically successful and engaged in healthy lifestyles. This is done through programs produced under five facets which include "Services to Youth," "The Arts," "National Trends and Services," "International Trends and Services" and "Health and Human Services."

For 2018, the chapter has developed an "Arts Facet Classics Through the Ages" program that combines visual arts and reading to inspire literacy in elementary school age children in Elgin.

This year's theme will broaden the health focus by adopting the theme "Our Vision, Our Future: Healthy and Happy Communities."

The National Poster Art Competition will award first-place winners from each age category. The winning artist in each category will receive a monetary award of $1,000 along with a certificate of achievement. Semifinalists will receive a certificate of participation and a monetary award of $250.
