Water Street Studios' Life Art Series presents 'The Art of Comedy'

On Friday, Feb. 23, Water Street Studios in Batavia invites the community to the Live Art Series, a monthly live art performance exploring a variety of art forms including music, film, dance, storytelling and more. It is hosted in the Dempsey Family Gallery, 160 S. Water St. The series is made possible by a grant from the Batavia Arts Council.

All ticket sales go to support the continuation of arts programming at Water Street Studios, a nonprofit art center in Batavia.

Enjoy an evening of stand-up comedy presented by comedian and former Water Street Studios resident artist Darius Hurley, who has been performing comedy in the Chicago area for the past four years. This event also will feature five of the area's best up-and-coming comedy acts for an evening of fun and laughter: Stuart Swanson, Katie Meiners, Scott Galvin, KB Marion and Timmy Blaze.

Stand-up comedy remains one of the more challenging of art forms combining inspiration, writing, rewriting, practice, and performance. It requires courage, patience and, occasionally, a thick skin. Stick around for a very informal Q&A afterward.

The performances are recommend for ages 17 and older. Seating is limited to 70.

Tickets are $5 in advance or $10 at the door.

Purchase tickets online at Eventbrite.com at bit.ly/2EoaJOy.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with cocktail hour. Performance begins at 7 p.m., an estimated 90 minutes with brief intermission.

There will be beer by Solemn Oath Brewery, wine provided by Bright Angel wines, and cocktails by Whiskey Acres.
