McHenry County jail inmate's death under investigation

The death of a McHenry County jail inmate early Wednesday is under investigation, officials said.

Jody T. Fortino, 48, was arrested on Feb. 7 and charged with several drug-related felonies, including possession of methamphetamine and anabolic steroids, court records show.

On Feb. 13, she was taken to Centegra Hospital - McHenry around 6 p.m. after complaining of abdominal pain; she was pronounced dead a few hours later at 1 a.m. Feb. 14, according to a news release from McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski.

Preliminary findings from an autopsy performed Wednesday found evidence of a perforated ulcer "with spillage of fecal contents into the abdominal cavity," the release said.

No evidence of foul play was found, and the final cause of death will be determined after a toxicology report, the release said. The Major Investigative Assistance Team is also looking into the woman's death.
