Girls gymnastics: Pistorius, Maine South win regional at home
Maine South was the class of the girls gymnastics regional meet the Hawks hosted Thursday.
Maine South produced a score of 147.275 to top Barrington (141.375), Prospect (138.100) and Rolling Meadows (128.075).
Junior all-around Caleigh Pistorius led the winning team's effort with victories on uneven bars (9.4), floor exercise (9.6) and vault (9.775).
She also had the top all-around total (37.575), just ahead of teammates Colette Roth (36.8) and Brittany Argaez (36.325).
Also advancing in the all-around were Prospect freshman Olivia Tader (36.275) and Barrington sophomore Lauren Tenbrunsel (36.175).
Tader was Prospect's only automatic sectional qualifier. She placed fifth on uneven bars (9.05) and second on floor exercise (9.375).
Tenbrunsel won balance beam with a 9.475 and took fourth on floor exercise with a 9.175.
Barrington had three more gymnasts come up with top-five finishes. Junior Sarah Ruesch was second on vault (9.425) and fifth on balance beam (8.825); sophomore Ashley Diaz took fourth on uneven bars (9.125) and freshman Brooke Husby was fifth on floor exercise (9.125).
Also advancing on uneven bars was Rolling Meadows sophomore Nicole Kane, who took third with a score of 9.25.
The team regional champions from the four sites feeding into Wednesday's sectional at Hoffman Estates were Fremd, Conant, Maine South and Prairie Ridge.
Advancing to that sectional with the two at-large team berths are Barrington and Palatine.
