Libertyville School District 70 Honors Lambs Farm

Libertyville School District 70 is honoring Lambs Farm, on behalf of Katie Bouwens, with its 2017-18 Award of Character.

The honor is the school district's only award bestowed on an outside organization. The prestigious award is given "in honor of exemplary character, leadership and service." The award was designed by Supt. Dr. Guy Schumacher and is given with appreciation by the Board of Education, administration and staff.

Bouwens, executive assistant and office manager for Lambs Farm, was presented with the award at a recent Board of Education meeting.

"We are proud to recognize Lambs Farm with a

Libertyville School District 70 Award of Character, Leadership and Service," Dale List, Character Counts Committee Coordinator and Rockland kindergarten teacher, said when presenting the award.

Lambs Farm was nominated for the award by Adler Park second grade teacher Elizabeth Davis and first grade teacher Theresa Gasick, along with List. Lambs Farm is a non-profit organization near Libertyville, which provides vocational and residential services for more than 250 adults with developmental disabilities.

The teachers note that "numerous" District 70 students now live at Lambs Farm and that "it is a wonderful support system for our adult students with developmental disabilities."

Adler Park School students and teachers also have "helped support Lambs Farm through donation drives for personal care items and craft supplies. Students at Adler Park School have also communicated with residents via letter and pictures."

In the nomination form for Lambs Farm, the teachers also note that the staff "continues the spirit of Character Counts by providing engaging activities and businesses for their residents." They continue by noting "The staff at Lambs Farm work tirelessly to showcase the success of their residents and provide meaningful opportunities to showcase the pillars of Character Counts."
