Schakowsky to boycott State of Union
Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky announced Friday she intends to boycott President Donald Trump's State of the Union address, heeding the wishes of her constituents.
"They've told me that they don't want their member of Congress acting as if this is just another Republican administration. They've asked me to resist and they've asked me to boycott," Schakowsky, an Evanston Democrat who represents the 9th Congressional District, said in a news release. "I will be boycotting President Donald Trump's State of the Union this year because I refuse to normalize President Donald Trump and his loathsome language and actions."
Elaborating on her decision, she cited the daily parade of tweets, breaking news stories and leaked quotes that shed, in her words, "new light on President Trump's twisted and prejudiced mind."
