Take part in Lunch Pail Book Discussion Feb. 10

The Mount Prospect Historical Society will host the second annual children's book discussion in its newly-restored original 1896 one-room schoolhouse Saturday, Feb. 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Children in grades three-five will discuss the Newberry Medal awarded "Sarah Plain and Tall" by Patricia MacLachlan while snacking on a prairie lunch.

The deadline to register and pay the $15 fee is Wednesday, Jan. 31. A prairie lunch is included.

"We are excited to continue our children's book discussion series in the Central School," said Deborah Rittle, local teacher and member of the Society's Living History program.

The one-room school is on the grounds of the Mount Prospect Historical Society, 103 S. Maple St.

"Sarah is the embodiment of the pioneer spirit that made communities like ours thrive."

Participants should read the book beforehand and come ready to chat a little about the story, Rittle added.

To register, visit the Mount Prospect Historical Society website at www.mtphist.org to pay through PayPal or call (847) 392-9006.
