Man killed after crashing into a tree in Aurora

A man was killed after his vehicle struck a tree in Aurora, police said.

Officials said the man was driving southbound on Heggs Road near Route 30 when his SUV crossed over into oncoming traffic and hit a tree. He was freed from the car by emergency crews and transported to Aurora Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was the only person in the car, according to police.

The crash occurred at around 6:07 p.m. and shut down traffic on Heggs Road between Route 30 and Bednarcik Junior High School at 3025 Heggs Road. Traffic investigators and the City of Aurora Emergency Management are investigating, officials said.
