Schaumburg Tennis Plus named Facility of the Year
A prominent area tennis organization is honoring Schaumburg Park District's Schaumburg Tennis Plus Sports & Fitness Club.
Chicago Tennis Patrons, the fundraising arm of the Chicago District Tennis Organization, has named STP the 2017 Facility of the Year. Chicago Tennis Patrons works to create opportunities for children to play the sport of tennis regardless of income. The award will be presented Feb. 17 at the 29th Annual Chicago Tennis Patrons' Evening of Champions event in Des Plaines.
"This award recognizes an outstanding tennis facility that has supported and promoted the overall growth of the game," said Paul MacDonald, STP director of tennis and a USPTA Master Professional. "We offer programs for all levels, starting with 4-year-old beginners to advanced juniors heading off to college as well as adult instruction for both beginner and advanced players-all at an affordable price at one of the top facilities in the Midwest."
Located at 1416 N. Payne Road, STP offers a variety of amenities, including eight indoor tennis courts, a fitness center and fitness studio, a four-lane lap pool, six racquetball courts, a basketball court and a multi-sport court for volleyball and badminton. The club also features a bar and grill.
The District purchased STP in 1998 after years of hosting programs at outdoor tennis sites, said Ryan Gangler, division manager of facilities.
"This award represents how much the Schaumburg Park District has invested into the game of tennis since taking over the club 20 years ago this year," Gangler said. "We've put unlimited resources into fixing up the eight indoor courts, and getting the best tennis director and staff as well as making the club an all-inclusive club from tennis and fitness to racquetball and swimming and much more."
