Fiber artist to speak at NeedleArts club
The North Suburban NeedleArts Guild welcomes Natasha Lehrer Lewis as the guest speaker for its meeting at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, at Gloria Dei Church, 1133 Pfingsten Road, in Northbrook.
Lewis' talk will be "Inside the Mind of the Artist." Lewis will share her goal as a fiber artist in rural America to capture the feeling of fulfillment and contentment when looking at a completed day's work. This feeling broadens the depth and meaning of her pieces.
Lewis has a great passion for connecting the worlds of fiber art, agriculture and education. She works with the wool from the sheep on her farm and sews, felts and embellishes her way to beautiful 2-D and 3-D creations, many wearable. She calls it "sheep to chic." She hopes to inspire others at her fiber arts studio, Esther's Place, in Big Rock, Illinois.
Lewis' work has been exhibited throughout the U.S. and in Verona, Italy. She teaches at the Chicago Botanic Garden, National Art Educator's Conference, Waubonsee Community College and many more.
Guests are welcome to attend. There is no charge for first-time guests. Lewis' lecture will follow the business meeting.
The North Suburban NeedleArts Guild is a Chicago area organization that draws members from Wisconsin, Indiana and the greater Chicago area. For information on future lectures and workshops, visit nsng.org.
