Grit and Grace: Teams USA Sharing Ice

Rolling Meadows, Illinois - January 21, 2018 - The 2018 US National SLED Hockey Team has a new Home & National Training Center at West Meadows Ice Arena, Rolling Meadows, IL.

As the US SLED Team prepares for 2018 Paralympics in Pyeonchang, South Korea, March 9-18th, they have been sharing ice with the Chicago Jazz Synchronized Skating Teams. The exposure to Paralympic SLED Hockey has been led by the pull from USA Hockey. Currently, SLED Team USA is the defending Paralympic Gold Medalists.

Similar, Synchronized Ice Skating is gaining more interest and Olympic momentum as the sport gains more attraction internationally and here in the States. According to US Figure Skating (www.usfsa.org), there are approximately 600 synchronized teams registered with US Figure Skating, and nearly 5,000 athletes participate annually in the synchronized skating sectional championships.

For the Chicago Jazz, their respective Junior level team has represented Team USA for 20 consecutive years. For this season, the trend continues as they prepare to represent Team USA at the Leon Lurje Trophy, Gothenburg, Sweden, January 26-28th. Then, the team will make a short return home before heading to the Trophy D'Ecosse, Dumfries, Scotland, February 10-11th, 2018.

For the Jazz, their future is set on the strong foundation of young skaters that comprise their Synchro Skills, Pre-Juvenile, Juvenile and Intermediate level teams. The teams are focused on the 2018 Midwestern & Pacific Coast Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships, Wichita, Kansas, January 24-28th.
