Citizens police academy

Openings are available for the upcoming citizen's police academy program in Vernon Hills. Village residents 21 and older can participate in the program that includes classroom training, open discussion, demonstrations and hands-on practicals. Topics include patrol operations, use of force, firearms (including use of the range), DUI enforcement and evidence collection. Participants also can go on a ride-along with a Vernon Hills police officer. The free academy runs from 7 to 9:30 p.m. for 10 consecutive Wednesdays beginning March 21.
