Enjoy a taste of summer at Summer Camp Open House Jan. 28

Kids and parents can enjoy a taste of summer when the North Suburban YMCA hosts its annual Summer Camp Open House on January 28 from 2:00 to 4:00pm. The event offers the chance to meet staff members, explore the facility, and learn about the wide variety of summer camp programs available at the Y, located at 2705 Techny Road in Northbrook.

The NSYMCA offers a wide array of over 40 general and special interest day camps for children in pre-K through junior high. The 2018 Camp Brochure, available online at NSYMCA.org, details all the exciting options including specialty camps in art, music, dance, cooking, science, digital media, and more. All NSYMCA camp programs provide a welcoming, nurturing, and creative environment to support the development of each child. Y camps offer fun, active experiences that promote friendships, confidence, and curiosity. Campers take full advantage of the Y's indoor pool, large gyms, outdoor sports fields, and appealing playgrounds. Many programs also include weekly field trips to exciting venues around the Chicago suburbs.

New programs for 2018 include innovative camps for special interests, including:

• North Shore Cooking Academy Cooking Camp

• Bach to Rock Glee Camp and Rock Band Camp

• Outdoor World Camp

• S.T.E.A.M. Camp

• Coding Camp

• Filmmaking and Photography

NSYMCA camps also deliver flexibility and value that appeals to parents. The Y offers half day and full day camps, before- and after-camp childcare, and transportation from Northbrook summer schools for afternoon camps. Payment plans and financial assistance are available for families in need.

All camp activities are run by highly trained counselors under the leadership of the Y's experienced professional staff. Angelica "Ang" Schab, Camp Director, brings over 10 years of camp management to her role overseeing all Y camp programs. Professional Y staff members including Early Childhood Director Shannon Cartier Visual Arts Director Cathie Winnie and Performing Arts Director Shannon Mundorf contribute their skills to camps in their areas of expertise.
