Can we believe Trump on Jerusalem?

Amid all the hand wringing over Donald Trump's "decision" to move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, it seems that one important question is getting lost: who really believes that just because Trump says he is going to do this, that he is actually going to follow through?

It is the height of understatement to point out that the president will say just about anything to satisfy a particular constituency when it is convenient for him. After all, in the very same week, he told voters again that the coming tax cut will result in a higher tax bill for him. And some media outlets did mention offhandedly that he plans to sign the same waiver to the Congressional Jerusalem Embassy Act that presidents have been signing for 22 years to delay the move.

We should at least recognize that the "big announcement" may very well have been just a ploy to grab a headline and make a few people happy for a while. The people that are unhappy about it didn't like him anyway.
