Miss Wauconda brings donated coloring supplies to children's hospital

When Sarah Jakubek was crowned Miss Wauconda, she was asked what her platform would be. After thinking about it, she decided to conduct a collection of coloring supplies for the children at Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.

Starting in October, she set out to collect new coloring books, crayons, color pencils and markers. On the day after Thanksgiving, she packed her car with a total of 208 coloring books, 38 packs of markers, 21 boxes of color pencils and 48 boxes of crayons.

She met a few children on her visit and was able to deliver the coloring supplies to them.

"Seeing the smiles on their faces when I handed them their coloring books and markers took my breath away," she said. "The children at this hospital will forever hold a special place in my heart."
