Online signup available for Vernon Hills house checks

Vernon Hills residents heading out of town can now sign up online to have police check their homes periodically.

Residents can visit www.frontlinepss.com/vernonhills to sign up for the free service. Requests also can be made by phone by calling (847) 362-4449 or by filling out a request form available at www.vernonhills.org/303/Vacation-Watches and sending it by fax to the police department at (847) 549-8028.

The request must come from the home's owner. Police cannot conduct house watches for apartments or units that share a common door entryway and will not conduct house watches if the homeowner has someone staying in the house.

House watch requests in excess of 14 days will be conducted on a weekly, instead of daily, basis.
