Schaumburg Places Third in Digital Cities Survey

The Village of Schaumburg is pleased to announce it has placed third in the 2017 Digital Cities Survey, which recognizes communities for improving citizen services, enhancing transparency and encouraging citizen engagement. Schaumburg is the only Illinois community ranked in the top 10 of its population category.

"Our goal has always been to find ways in which we can utilize technology so that we can provide the best user experience for all of our customers," said Peter Schaak, Director of Information Technology. "Schaumburg sets the bar for success very high when it comes to customer service, and we're pleased to be recognized for our achievements in improving technology so that it can benefit the public we serve."

Open to all U.S. cities, the survey ranked the village third in cities with a population of 74,999 or less. Top-ranked digital cities and villages in this year's survey are promoting citizen inclusion in important government processes and sharing government data with the public.

The village recently redesigned its website to increase transparency by providing online meeting materials and an interactive calendar, among other tools. Additional technology achievements this year include:

• Developing a traffic dashboard to improve access to critical transportation data such as traffic volumes, accidents and more

• Creating new features on the village's WebPay portal to increase convenience and efficiency for customers who make online payments

• Transitioning fire department inspections from a paper process to a tablet-based electronic system to increase productivity and reduce the time needed to complete inspections

"The use of technology is vital to the way we perform village operations, which allows us to provide a high level of service to the public," said Village President Al Larson. "It's important that we stay up-to-date on new practices and tools that can be used to improve our interactions with residents, businesses and visitors. I congratulate the Information Technology Department on this great achievement."

The top 10 ranked cities will be honored at a special awards ceremony during the National League of Cities' annual conference held Thursday, Nov. 16 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
