New gazebo to be installed at Rolling Meadows park
The Rolling Meadows Park District plans to install a new gazebo in Kimball Hill Park this weekend, weather permitting.
It will replace the 1990s-era wooden gazebo the park district removed in fall 2016 due to its poor condition.
The new gazebo, purchased for $25,000, was scheduled to be installed earlier this year, but the project had to be re-engineered and re-permitted.
"If you dig down too deep, you hit water," said Amy Charlesworth, the park district's executive director.
Then came scheduled summer concerts and other events at the park. Charlesworth said officials didn't want construction to be disruptive.
The city ended up renting a stage for its Fridays Rock! and Roll in Meadows summer concert series. But the new gazebo - actually more of an amphitheater because it's longer and has a steel roof - will be well-suited to host future park events, Charlesworth said.
It will be located near the park's waterfall/fountain.
