Lisle woman accused of resisting arrest in DUI stop

A Lisle woman who was bleeding from the face early Thursday after a disturbance in an apartment complex parking lot is accused of driving drunk - away from an officer who was called to check on her well-being, authorities said.

Claire C. Webb, 28, of the 1800 block of Portsmouth Drive, also is accused of fleeing and attempting to elude an officer, resisting arrest and obstructing a peace officer after police said someone called to report hearing a scream and seeing a woman bleeding in the parking lot at Lisle Place apartments.

Lisle police received a call at 1:07 a.m. describing a woman with a bleeding face who looked like she might have lost a tooth, Deputy Chief Ron Wilke said.

The first officer to arrive on the 4500 block of Beau Monde Drive a few minutes later saw a driver who fit the description and tried to get the vehicle to pull over.

Wilke said the driver did not stop but headed east on Ogden Avenue then south on Yackley Avenue, eventually pulling onto two side streets and parking at a residence on the 1800 block of Portsmouth Drive, about two miles away.

The woman driving the car got out and tried to run inside as the officer tried to stop her. Wilke said she resisted and struggled with the officer, despite "suffering from severe intoxication" and a head injury, which caused bleeding on her forehead over her left eye.

The woman, later identified as Webb, was taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville for treatment of her injuries, then returned to the Lisle Police Department for booking. There, when a booking officer was returning her possessions, Webb threw coins at the officer and struck her in the chest, Wilke said.

The booking officer was not injured, but throwing the coins led police to cite Webb with an ordinance violation for battery, Wilke said.

Officers are following up with a few potential witnesses who might have seen or heard what happened in the Lisle Place parking lot before Webb drove away.

Wilke said they are trying to determine what happened to Webb to cause her to start bleeding. He said Webb told officers she was talking with a former boyfriend and holding onto the handle of a car door, but when the car drove away, she fell to the pavement.

No one else has been charged or cited, but Wilke said the investigation continues.

Webb's first court date is scheduled for Dec. 6 in DuPage County court.
