Adler Center Exhibition Features 'Tranquility and Imagination'

In November and December, the David Adler Music and Arts Center celebrates the work of Chicago artist Bob Klunk, and Vernon Hills artist Karen Altschul in a new exhibition featuring hand-colored etchings, photography, watercolors, and print making.

A free, public reception for the artists will be held on Friday, November 3rd from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. This family-friendly event is suitable for all ages.

Bob Klunk, who will display hand-colored etchings and watercolors, is a longtime friend of the David Adler Music & Arts Center. He gained national recognition for his signature etching of the Chicago Museum Campus, for "Butterfly Chair," which welcomes guests to the Field Museum, and for "Chicago 2000," a watercolor commissioned by the State of Illinois to celebrate the new millennium.

Klunk says, "My art is the expression of my imagination through my observation of all that I experience and see in life." His striking watercolor masks feature vibrant colors, and patterns that evoke the symmetry and delicacy of butterfly wings.

Karen Altschul pays tribute to the both the natural world, and the realm of ballet, in her photography, paintings, and mixed media work.

"I'm inspired by nature, dance, and music," she says. "I'm trying to find beauty in everyday things, and during stressful times." One photograph features end-of-the-season roses taken in low-lighting.

"The photo was taken at the end of the day, at the end of the season," Altschul says, "It was a fleeting moment of tranquility, and those are worth trying to capture."

See new works by Bob Klunk and Karen Altschul from November 3 - December 15. The galleries, part of renowned architect David Adler's country estate, are open from 9am - 9pm Monday through Thursday and from 9am - 2pm each Saturday. Admission is free.
