Fortunately, these soldiers lost the war

While I doubt that you could find even one living American veteran who would say that they fought to preserve the right of police to brutalize people of color and to preserve a lower standard of opportunity for African Americans, it is worth remembering that in the 19th Century there were soldiers in America who fought and died for exactly those principles. Fortunately, they lost the Civil War.

I wonder what Abraham Lincoln would think of a president who equates protesting against police brutality and racism with disrespecting our veterans, but who thinks that there are "a lot of good people" protesting that people of other races and religions have the same legal rights as Christian whites.
