10-year-old Aurora boy describes pit bull attack
The 10-year-old boy attacked by a pair of pit bulls last week in Aurora was released from the hospital Wednesday and spoke to ABC 7 News about his ordeal.
Luke Drees was walking to school Oct 13 on the 1000 block of Jackson Street when he was mauled by the dogs, police said.
"I was running in circles, yelling for help," Luke told ABC 7.
The dogs ripped off one of Luke's ears and left deep gashes on his head and legs, according to ABC 7.
When a 31-year-old Aurora woman driving by saw the boy being attacked, she left her vehicle to help him. The dogs ran off, and the woman called 911.
Doctors were able to reattach Luke's ear, ABC 7 reported. He'll be out of school while he recovers, but he said he may visit Dieterich Elementary Thursday and have pizza with his classmates.
One dog was caught shortly after the attack, but the other eluded capture. About 8:30 a.m. Monday, the 20-year-old owner, who lives on the 1100 block of Hinman Street near Aurora, told Animal Care and Control that he found the dog, Aurora police said, and he turned the it over to the animal care facility.
Both dogs been euthanized.
Police said the owner was cited for letting the pit bulls run at large and for the attack on the boy. He also was cited because one of the dogs was overdue for its rabies shot, police said. He faces $3,500 in fines.
