One injured after lightning sparks Hawthorn Woods house fire
A lightning strike sparked a house fire that sent one person to the hospital and displaced a Hawthorn Woods family Saturday night, authorities said.
The Lake Zurich Fire Department said the fire started about 7 p.m. on Newhaven Drive. Firefighters arrived to find fire and smoke in the attic.
They quickly evacuated residents and worked to extinguish the fire, officials said.
A resident was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. An update on the person's condition was not available Sunday.
The home was declared uninhabitable, with damage estimated at $100,000. The Red Cross assisted family members with temporary living arrangements, officials said.
Lake Zurich firefighters received assistance from the Barrington-Countryside, Buffalo Grove, Countryside, Lincolnshire, Long Grove, Mundelein, Palatine, Palatine Rural and Wauconda fire departments.
