Take out your favorite chili recipe for Batavia Viking Ring Lodge 18 contest

Do you make a chili that wakes up everyone's taste buds? If so, share it with the world - or at least the seventh annual chili cook-off at the Batavia Viking Ring Lodge 18.

The event takes place Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Viking Lodge, 104 N. Van Nortwick Ave. in Batavia. Public festivities begin at 1 p.m. The Vikings are collaborating with Batavia United Way to support local nonprofit agencies and the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance Burn Camp. The cook-off also is accepting food donations or money for the Batavia Food Pantry.

Tasting tickets cost $5 each and are available at the door.

The chili cook-off organizers welcome anyone who would like to try their hand at cooking chili. Because the Chili Appreciation Society International Inc. sanctions this event, the cook-off will use CASI's competition chili rules. This means cooks will prepare the chili on site and from scratch, with no fillers. The entry fee to cook is $20.

Besides the best tasting chili winners, cooks can earn a showmanship award.

To learn more about this year's event, call Bill Pierson of Illinois' local CASI chapter, the Chillini Chili Pod, at (630) 879-7934.

Get out your favorite chili fixings, dust off your secret recipe and sign up as a cook, or at least mark your calendars to join the Batavia Viking Ring Lodge and Batavia United Way for a hot event Oct. 14.
