Lawyer for college football player accused of attack speaks

CHICAGO (AP) - An attorney for one of the five Wheaton College football players accused of attacking another player is wondering why it took authorities well over a year to file charges in a case where the school meted out its punishment months ago.

Mark Sutter represents Noah Spielman, the son of former Ohio State and All-Pro NFL linebacker Chris Spielman. He says he doesn't know the details of the punishment but the attorney who represents the alleged victim says the students were required by the Christian college in suburban Chicago to perform community service and write an eight-page essay about the 2016 incident. The five face felony charges, included aggravated battery.

Wheaton Police have said it took them a long time to complete the investigation because it was so complicated.
