Help an adult speak English with Literacy Volunteers program

Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley is hosting a tutor training workshop at the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave.

The four-session workshop will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, Oct. 9-18.

Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley helps adults learn English by matching them with volunteer tutors one to one.

Most of these adults have come from other countries to live in safety, to send their children to good schools, and to contribute to our economic well-being.

With a little bit of help, they can be more productive members of the community.

Once you are trained, you will meet with an adult student for one hour each week. Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley arranges convenient, comfortable, and safe public locations for tutoring. Most tutors and students meet at local libraries.

From week to week, you will see your student get more comfortable and fluent in English and you will know you are making a big difference in their life. You will get guidance and support when you need it.

Experienced tutors are glad to share what they have learned.

Residents who are interested in registering for tutor training can visit www.lvfv.org or call/text Peg at (630) 584-4428.
