Girls volleyball: Zion-Benton ends Stevenson's win streak

Zion-Benton's girls volleyball team cooled off Stevenson, which had won four matches in a row since Sophie Sorenson returned to the lineup from an injury.

The host Zee-Bees won 25-14, 17-25, 25-17 in North Suburban Conference action Tuesday night. Lily Cozzi had 10 kills for Stevenson (10-8, 2-1), which also received 5 kills from Sorenson, who missed her team's first 13 matches. Sara Bufe added 4 kills, Chloe Robinson served 5 aces for the Patriots, Alex Cuc dished out 13 assists, Grace Tully notched 8 digs, and Hope Havenhill chalked up 3 kills, 2 solo blocks and 2 assisted blocks.

Grayslake Central d. Antioch: Cassidy Beshel had 7 kills and 2 aces, as the Rams won 25-17, 25-16 in Northern Lake County action.

Grayslake Central (15-8, 2-0) also got contributions from Amber Moser (6 kills, 1 ace, 7 digs), Kate Bullman (3 kills, 2 blocks), Michelle Maraist (5 kills), Elisa Koshy (3 kills) and Abby Marassa (5 aces, 9 digs).

"Very proud of how competitive we were in all aspects of tonight's match against a strong Antioch team," Grayslake Central coach Jason Janczak said. "It was great to get our 15th win of the year with a total team effort."

Grayslake North d. Round Lake: Taylor Ebersohl, Alyssa Gerzel and Jessica Pozezinski each had 3 kills, as the Knights won 25-16, 25-14 in Northern Lake County action.

Abby Cunningham dished out 6 assists for Grayslake North, which improved to 2-1 in the NLCC.

Lake Zurich d. Warren: The Bears won 25-23, 25-22 to improve to 3-0 in the North Suburban, while cooling off the Blue Devils.

Warren's Ella White had 10 kills.

Palatine d. Lake Zurich: On Monday night, the Bears lost the nonconference match 27-25, 20-25, 26-24, despite big efforts from Katie Guy and Claudia Kieda.

Guy had 10 kills, 13 digs and 4 aces, while Kieda tallied 12 kills, 10 digs and 3 aces. Jocelyn Leng and Cameron Baldaccini added 4 and 3 kills, respectively, for Lake Zurich (5-7). Kylie Dykgraaf (21) and Kelly Bush (14) combined for 35 assists, and Andrea Kamins posted a team-high 13 digs for the Bears.
