Arlington Heights music association announces lineup
Maria Muldaur will open an upcoming music series in Arlington Heights, while the Glenn Miller Orchestra will close the series next spring.
The Northwest Suburban Community Concert Association's 2017-18 season of five performances on Sundays at 3 p.m. at the Forest View Educational Center in Arlington Heights launches this weekend.
"Our group has been presenting concerts for almost 70 years, and this is the most exciting season we've ever had," association President Doug Martin said in a news release.
"We've got great music - and a great variety - that will be incredibly entertaining and an amazing deal for our member subscribers."
The season begins Sunday, Sept. 24, with Maria Muldaur, whose sultry hit "Midnight at the Oasis" is as enchanting today as it was years ago.
Then, on Nov. 5, Chicago's Sones de Mexico will present a whirlwind of music and dancing honoring the Mexican Day of the Dead holiday. The Day of the Dead show is too big for the auditorium; it will be moved to the Forest View Fieldhouse.
The concert series takes the winter off, and then resumes March 18, 2018, with the Fat Babies, an eight-piece band playing traditional jazz from the 1920s and '30s.
The Newberry Consort, a Chicago-based ensemble that plays and sings Medieval, Renaissance and baroque music, will perform April 22, 2018.
The Glenn Miller Orchestra will close out the concert season May 20, 2018. The Glenn Miller band attracts the country's best big-band talent, and its members play - and sing - all the great Miller hits.
Individual tickets for Sunday's concert are $25 at the door or online at nscommunityconcerts.org/NSCCA_OrderForm.html.
A full-season membership is $95 and can be obtained online, by emailing a request to info@NSCCommunityConcerts.org or calling Sally Matzinger at (847) 259-2378, or stopping by the Community Education office at Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebert Road.
Members are entitled to bring any K-12 student with them for free and can attend Waukegan concerts presented by the Lake County Community Concert Association at no extra charge.
