Sugar Grove McDonald's hosts a fundraiser for John Shields School

John Shields Elementary School in Kaneland Unit District 302 held a McTeacher's Night on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the Sugar Grove McDonald's.

McTeacher's Night is organized to help raise money for local schools by having teachers and staff work at McDonald's and then giving a percentage of the night's sales back to the local school.

The restaurant was taken over by teachers and staff from John Shields Elementary excited to serve freshly prepared meals to students and their families to raise money for the PTO.

There were 15 teachers and staff who worked from the school including the PTO representatives. The McTeacher's jobs included greeting guests, cleaning the lobby, working the front counter, serving drinks, making ice cream, clearing tables, selling apple pies and even dressing up in an apple pie costume.

A special thank you goes to Mary Jurgens and Elizabeth Burton who volunteered to dress up as an apple pie while families donated funds for their own delicious pie!

Thank you to PTO representative Ashley Wartel who organized the event and a very special thank you also to Estela Bosque and Lauren Boryc, the co-presidents who worked the last shift.

Teachers and staff worked hard and with excitement, while the families enjoyed a spectacular evening.

The Sugar Grove school plans to use the money raised to go into the PTO fund for future events.
