How did writer know?
The letter on Aug. 27 ascribing motive to a White Sox player's gesture following a home run, a rarity, leaves me wondering how the writer knows the player's motivation. I've seen the same gesture many times and always thought the player making the gesture was acknowledging his significant other in the stands. Even if we could agree that the gesture was more heavenly, it doesn't necessarily mean that is a thank-you for favoring him over his opponent. He could simply be thanking Him for the blessings he has received to be able to play baseball successfully. Aren't His freely given gifts the reason we celebrate Thanksgiving? Professional sports have enough rules curtailing individual expression. To add another for a simple, personal gesture is bogus.
