Water Street Studios celebrates its eighth anniversary with show opening Sept. 8

Water Street Studios in Batavia will display work of more than 30 artists for its eighth anniversary show in the Dempsey Family Gallery, 60 S. Water St.

The exhibiting artists in this annual juried show are past, present and future studio residents, past displaying artists, Water Street Collective members, past and present Water Street Studios members, committee members and volunteers, making this a true community event to celebrate Water Street Studios' "Golden Birthday."

Danielle Hollis, executive director of Water Street Studios, said, "We are honored to support our ever-growing community of artists. Now in our eight year, Water Street Studios is clearly becoming the arts and cultural hub of the Fox River Valley region and beyond. We are very fortunate have so many talented and active artists in our community. Our eighth anniversary show is an opportunity to celebrate them and their work."

The show will include paintings, prints, collage, assemblages and sculpture. During the opening night reception, there will be Maker-Space demonstrations by our PrintLab, MetalLab, and ClayLab Managers; free food by Gaetano's Batavia; and a cash bar featuring beer from Solemn Oath Brewery and wine from Bright Angel wines. The exhibit will open at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8 and continue until Sunday, Oct. 8.

Upstairs at the Kane County Chronicle Gallery resident artist Bonnie King will display a number of recent oil paintings for her show titled, "Null District" at the Kane County Chronicle gallery, located on the second floor of Water Street Studios. The show will be on view during regular gallery hours from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The premises of Water Street Studios is now accessible to all with the installation of a new wheelchair lift. A special thank you goes to the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley for providing funding for this project and to A-Z Mobility for working with the art studio on this project. Water Street and the community will celebrate it with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that will take place at 5:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8. Batavia Mayor Jeff Schielke and other prominent members of the community will be in attendance.
