Wheaton-Glen Ellyn AAUW to kick off new season
The Wheaton-Glen Ellyn American Association of University Women opens its new season with a showcase of opportunities and a timely program at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, at the Glen Ellyn History Center, 800 N. Main St.
While the AAUW's mission is serious - to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research - members have a lot of fun getting there.
Stimulating programs feature experts in their fields; food and good fellowship at the Spice Routes Dinners; fiction and nonfiction book discussion groups; learning and playing bridge; the Eleanor Roosevelt Walk; theater and other cultural activities; and the group's major fundraising event, The Book Sale.
The Sept. 6 program is "Barriers and Bias" featuring Andi Danis, who will discuss the lack of gender equity in leadership positions. Despite women's impressive gains in education and the workplace over the past 50 years, men greatly outnumber women in leadership, especially in top positions.
Danis will define the challenge and offer solutions to close the leadership gap. All AAUW meetings are open to the public.
